ADWEEK: The Bookcase for Tolerance, created by Innocean Berlin and Media.Monks, is a digital tool that educates people about modern day intolerance. An immersive AR app tells the story of Anne Frank, the Jewish girl who died in Auschwitz after hiding from Nazi persecution. The project gets its name from the bookcase that concealed the secret annex where Frank and her family were forced to hide. 

A teaser film, directed by Johan Kramer, introduces the project and the broader themes of intolerance and acceptance. Elliot Page, the transgender actor and activist, narrates the film.

“We feel honoured to collaborate with so many talented partners and, together with the Anne Frank House, develop an innovative tool to help counter this social plague called intolerance. To quote Otto Frank, Anne Frank’s father: ‘We cannot change what happened anymore. The only thing we can do is to learn from the past and to realize what discrimination and persecution of innocent people means. I believe that it’s everyone’s responsibility to fight prejudice,’” Ricardo Wolff, executive creative director at Innocean Berlin, said in a statement.
